The Menzingers Celebrate the Release of Everything I Ever Saw at The Stone Pony

On a beautiful summer night, The Menzingers rolled into Asbury Park to celebrate the release of their latest album at the legendary Stone Pony. The band mentioned how special our little city by the sea has become to them, and the sold out crowd proved why as they welcomed them with open arms.
Everything I Ever Saw is the eighth album of the Philadelphia punk rockers' storied twenty year career. According to the band, "it chronicles moments of significant change—the personal, the political, and the universal—while returning to the core creative principles that first put them on the map with listeners the world over."
"Chance Encounters" is a track that is sure to become a fan favorite in this writer's opinion, and "The Fool" is another standout. Honestly, the entire record is good and should easily be part of many fans' summer playlists. The new songs sounded great live too!
As for the show, it was such a great experience. This was my first time seeing The Menzingers at The Pony, and it was a perfect combination. They sounded awesome and the crowd's energy just fueled their performance. The setlist was a good combination of old and new, and included some of their best songs like "After the Party", "I Don't Wanna Be An Asshole Anymore", "America (You're Freaking Me Out)" and "The Obituaries". They even gave a nod to playing the old Home for the Holidays shows by covering "Kate Is Great" by The Bouncing Souls.
The emotion of the crowd as they sang along to every song (including some of the new ones) showed just how much they mean to them, a fact that clearly is not lost on the band. There was even a little crowd surfing. If this night was any indication, the upcoming tour should be something special.
And I cannot forget to mention The Holy Mess who kicked off the night with a really fun set. They recently wrapped a tour opening for Teenage Bottle Rocket, but made sure to once again support their friends from Philly. Definitely put them on your radar if you haven't already, and keep an eye out for our photo gallery of their performance which should be up soon.
Couldn't get a ticket for The Pony show? The Menzingers kick off their big fall tour in September and will be back in the area at Brooklyn Paramount on November 22 for the last show of that run. The tour also includes special guests Hot Water Music and Weekend Friends, so don't wait too long to get your tickets while they last.
