If you are familiar with the Asbury Park music scene, you likely know Renee Maskin. Whether it was from her solo work or fronting the indie rock band Lowlight, the talented singer-songwriter has been a mainstay of the Jersey Shore music community for a while now. She’s even opened for The Pretenders and had a chance to play at Sea Hear Now.
Maskin’s latest project is The Wilder Tide, which she describes as having an “Americana rock” sound. After focusing on her solo music the past few years, she realized it was time to change things up a bit. “As much as I love the delicate acoustic sound, it's fun to just get on a stage with a bunch of people, play a guitar and rock out. I was missing that in my life and now I got it back.”
The band started to take shape two years ago when Maskin and drummer Eric Pierce started jamming at his practice spot in Asbury. They eventually invited bassist Chris Dubrow to join and began performing as a trio. They still felt like something was missing though. That opened the door for guitarist Joe Pellegrinelli to be the last piece of the puzzle.
Fast forward to this summer, and the group is set to release their debut EP, In The Headlights. Maskin said they are stoked with how it sounds and excited to get it out there. She's also excited to start working on the next batch of songs. “As a new band, we're still finding our footing, but I like where we're headed. I love that I can bring a song to the table and say let’s shape it into something. Eric, Chris, and Joe are really great for that, and it's been a lot of fun.”
Renee Maskin & The Wilder Tide will be playing at the Baronet Rooftop in Asbury Park on August 15 along with The Extensions and Cussing. All three bands will be celebrating new releases, so it should be a fun night of local music. Tickets are on sale, so make sure to grab one before they’re gone!
In The Headlights releases August 14. Be sure to give it a listen wherever you stream or purchase your music.
